Scatter Plot Two-way Tables Google Forms

Page history last edited by nkurzel@... 9 years, 2 months ago

Google Forms:  https://www.google.com/forms/about/

Mathematical Objectives:

  • Students will create scatter plots
  • Students will create two-way tables
  • Students will find a line of best fit to predict information from their scatter plot
  • Students will find relative frequency to explain what the dada means

8th Grade Standards:

8.SP.1: Construct and interpret scatter plots for bivariate measurement data to investigate patterns of association between two quantities. Describe patterns such as clustering, outliers, positive or negative association, linear association, and nonlinear association.

8.SP.4: Understand that patterns of association can also be seen in bivariate categorical data by displaying frequencies and relative frequencies in a two-way table. Construct and interpret a two-way table summarizing data on two categorical variables collected from the same subjects.

Description

Day 1

0:00-5:00

Warm-up: Students will answer two question in CPS that will review what we have been learning about scatter plots and two-way tables

5:00-10:00

Directions and examples. I will provide students with directions about the activity and show them one example of what their end result should be.

  1. Students will be organized into 5 groups.
  2. Students will create 2 surveys (One scatter plot and one two-way table) in google forms. They will set their survey up on an iPad where students will be able to walk around and complete each other’s survey.
  3. Students will pull their results and organize them into either a table or graph
  4. Students will find the line of best fit of their data to make predictions for the scatter plot
  5. Students will find the relative frequency of their two-way table and explain what the results mean.

10:00-30:00

Students will create their surveys and get have their forms pulled up on the computer

3000-60:00

Students will walk around and complete the surveys for their peers

Day 2

0:00-5:00

Students will get their technology out and pull up their results from their surveys

5:00-30:00

Students will organize their data into the scatter plot and the two-way table

30:00-50:00

Students will find the line of best fit and the relative frequencies for their data

50:00-60:00

Each group will have 2 minutes to present their data/findings to the class.
